Short Term Mission Opportunities 2010

ChinaPastor Mark Ger (All Nations Mission International, http://anmius.org/)annually leads summer mission teams to China, and has extended the invitation to interested members of HCF. Ministry may include music evangelism, youth camps, English classes, and more.  Ability to speak Chinese is helpful, but not mandatory.  This is a great option for musicians, worship leaders, teachers, counselors, prayer ministry, and more. Time commitment would be 2-3 weeks, with three local training days in May and June.
Dates: TBD sometime between mid-July and mid-August 2010
Estimated Cost: Around $1500-$2000

London: Serve with one of Arab World Ministries' Discovery teams in London this Summer (http://www.awm.org/uk/get-involved/category/discovery-teams/). Thousands of tourists from Gulf countries come to London every summer for holidays.  It’s a great opportunity to share your faith with people who normally live in limited-access countries. The first week is orientation and training with other team members in which you learn the basics of Islam, followed by two weeks of outreach in the city through park evangelism, book tables, children’s ministry, and social events.
Dates: July 3-24, 2010
Estimated Cost: Around $3000 (airfare plus in-country expenses)

Mexico: Join with other members of HOPE as we partner with Baja Christian Ministries (http://www.bajachristian.org/) and their church planting movement to build homes for needy families in Mexico, with potential opportunities for VBS, sports, drama, and orphanage ministry as well. This is a great option for cell groups, families and youth. Preparation includes team meetings and participation in fund-raisers. More information.
Dates: TBD. One or two weekend trips in 2010 (spring or fall)
Estimated Cost: $100 for age 13 and older; $75 for 12 and under

International Students Locally: Did you know that there are more than 40,000 international students and scholars in greater Los Angeles, more than in any other area in the U.S.? International Students, Inc. ( http://www.isionline.org/) welcomes volunteers who desire to minister to international students as English conversation partners, friendship partners, professional mentors, homestay hosts, through hospitality or involvement in ISI social events and activities. Time commitment is variable, depending on your availability.  Keep your eyes open for the training event coming up soon.

West Los Angeles: Pastor Abel and Sandra Kim of HCF have a vision for starting a new church in West L.A.—one that will be a compassionate, creative, city-loving, Christian community and an agent of God’s transforming grace to the city. They are inviting interested folks from HOPE to join them in practical service projects and/or prayer walking in the West L.A. area this spring in preparation for church planting.
