A Multi-Cultural Community Church

Board Members

Jason Reyes | Chair

I accepted Christ as a young child in Sunday School (with Mr. Peabody) while spending my summer break with my cousin in Chula Vista, California. My wife Marnie and I have known each other for over 28 years and have been married for 19 years. (Church youth camps are a great place to meet your future spouse!) We have two kids, Meliza (17) and  Joshua (13), and a pet dog named Olly (4). We have been members of Hope since 2004 and have served on the worship team, children’s ministry, and as cell group leaders. We have a passion for cultivating healthy marriages and families and mentor several couples and individuals. We love to take vacations as a family and my wife and I enjoy hobbies such as bowling, watching movies, badminton, walking together, and  Zumba. I currently work as an IT Network Manager for the County of Los Angeles and my wife Marnie works for the Arcadia Unified School District. Over the years, Hope has become a place of healing and freedom and we pray that many others would experience the unstoppable love of Christ. Additionally, please contact us if you ever want to hang out with us at our favorite taco truck in Pasadena.

Marilyn Hogshead | Secretary

Marilyn and her husband, Jerry, are “old timers” at HOPE, having been part of the team that started the church in the mid-1990”s. Over the years, they’ve served as HOPE group leaders, on the worship team, on the global missions team and as one of HOPE’s global mission workers, facilitating church planting partnerships in south Asia. They have two adult children, Daniel and Becca. Besides spending time with family, church family and friends, Marilyn loves  morning walks and water aerobics classes, being creative in the kitchen, attempting to garden, reading and retreating to mountains.

I hail originally from Portland, OR, (Rip City) but was formally educated at Colorado State University.  I moved to Southern Cal immediately after graduating in 1999 to take a position at the LA County Department of Public Works.  My best friend, Rama (a fellow civil engineer), and I met as cubicle neighbors.  We have been married since August 2004.  We started coming to Hope in 2007 with our newborn son, Raja, soon after we purchased our first home in the neighborhood.  Our daughter Nalini, came along 2 years later.  We enjoy hiking together as a family, and cruising on our tandem bicycle.  My parents instilled a deep love of music in me as a kid (even though there were definitely times I really became tired of practicing all that classical stuff).  However, thoroughly enjoy the opportunities at HOPE to use music to lead us into worship of the Lord. Rama and I also lead a HOPE Group (shout out to my fellow Friday night peeps) at our home each week.  I’ll play just about anything that involves a ball and never hesitate to jump into just about any body of water – almost any time of year.  I am absolutely convinced the good news truly is the best news of all and I welcome any opportunity to share why.  Oh, and ISTJ, because someone always asks.

Becky Kuchenski

I asked Jesus to be my personal Savior and Lord at the end of my second year at UC Irvine.  My husband, Don, of 26 years and I have been involved and blessed with Hope’s ministry since it began in 1997.  We are learning what it means to have an empty nest as our two sons, Daniel (24) and Joel (22), have moved to Long Beach and Texas (way too far)!  My full time job is teaching at Maranatha High School as the Learning Lab Coordinator.  I love working with youth and think of it as ministry as I use my spiritual gift of exhortation to impact lives beyond the classroom.  I have been

involved in a variety of ministries at HOPE over the years including: leading HOPE groups with my husband, coaching leaders, leading women’s Bible studies, and organizing retreats. I am always planning and on the go, so during my free times I love road biking, traveling (ask me about living overseas), drinking coffee with friends, reading, and spending time with my boys.  Most importantly I love being a child of God which is where my true identity lies.

I am a native of Southern California--born and raised in Los Angeles. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, I studied business at Cal-State University Los Angeles. I have been privileged to work at the same financial institution for over 30 years and am currently in their IT department. I trusted Christ as Lord and Savior in 1992. My wife and daughter started attending HOPE in 2003. While at HOPE, I co-led a HOPE Group with my wife Sylvia, been part of the Finance Team, and currently serve on the worship media support team. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, surfing the web and watching movies.

I grew up in Kobe, Japan where I went to a small church with a Japanese pastor and American missionaries. My husband Joseph and I moved to California in 1992 with our older daughter, Karin, who was 11 month old. We were attending Sierra Madre Congregational Church then came to HOPE as part of the church planting team in 1997 along with our youngest daughter, Airin. When HOPE had its first fast and prayer gathering, the Lord gave me a picture of a big boat in which many people were on board with joy and excitement. It's been a wonderful journey seeing and experiencing God's movement through the people of HOPE and it's my privilege to serve on the leadership board again this season. Our HOPE group and the prayer team have also been such a blessing to my family. I work as an instructional aide for special education where I learn many things from my students. Although we each have our busy schedules, I enjoy spending time with my family.
